As reported by Latin Business Chronicle, Uruguay replaced Chile in terms of Internet and technology penetration, according to the fifth annual Latin Technology Index. Some of the aspects considered for this index are: internet penetration, internet bandwidth, personal computers, users with WIFI access, and phone lines. Uruguay is now leading the ranking and in the top 5 for all the categories listed. Another index revealed was the 2010 United Nations e-Government Survey: Leveraging e-government at a time of financial and economic crisis, where Uruguay gained 12 places and now is the third country in the list of Latin America countries, just behind Chile and Colombia. Success here is due to the actions leaded by AGESIC (Uruguayan eGovernment Agency).Without any doubt, there are still challenges for our industry, but these international recognitions are always a good measure to confirm that we are on the right path and contribute to the awareness of Uruguayan IT industry.
