Uruguay leading in technology adoption rankings among Latam countries

August 15th, 2010 · No Comments

As reported by Latin Business Chronicle, Uruguay replaced Chile in terms of Internet and technology penetration, according to the fifth annual Latin Technology Index. Some of the aspects considered for this index are: internet penetration, internet bandwidth, personal computers, users with WIFI access, and phone lines. Uruguay is now leading the ranking and in the top 5 for all the categories listed. Another index revealed was the 2010 United Nations e-Government Survey: Leveraging e-government at a time of financial and economic crisis, where Uruguay gained 12 places and now is  the third country in the list of Latin America countries, just behind Chile and Colombia. Success here is due to the actions leaded by AGESIC (Uruguayan eGovernment Agency).Without any doubt, there are still challenges for our industry, but these international recognitions are always a good measure to confirm that we are on the right path and contribute to the awareness of Uruguayan IT industry.

A new opportunity to contribute with our IT Industry

July 29th, 2010 · No Comments

About one month ago I received a very exciting invitation. The folks from the Uruguayan IT Chamber were inviting me to be part of its new management team for 2010 - 2011. My answer was obvious JSo I had the first meeting with these 20 key players from our IT industry, most of them owners of the most recognized IT companies in Uruguay plus one Microsoft and IBM representative. It is a big pleasure and honor to share ideas with such team, and hopefully I would be able to do some contributions. This year we will be focusing in applying technology to our local market industries, continue with promoting Uruguay IT industry across the globe, and to deal with the human resources challenges. I’m listed in a team to work in positioning our industry in the global market, so I hope to contribute somehow with our experience gained when running our company UruIT through our global vision.
